              Facts about Wisdom Teeth:

              •  As you age, the complications associated with the removal of wisdom teeth are  greater.
              • Once a dental health professional has evaluated your wisdom teeth and found them to be impacted--unable to erupt into your mouth--quicker recovery and healing after third molar extraction is linked to early extraction.
              • Wisdom teeth in general can be a common site of inflammation and a breeding ground for bacteria and oral infection.
              • Recurrent infections or cysts around the tooth can cause bone loss and weakening of the jaw bone.
              • 3rd molars can cause damage to adjacent teeth.
              • 3rd molars can cause crowding of other teeth, causing them to shift out of line.
The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons considers the ideal time to remove 3rd molars is during the teenage years, between 14 and 20 years old.

If you are experiencing any swelling, or pain associated with your wisdom teeth, do not wait to have them check by qualified dentist.  Bacteria can form around partially erupted wisdom teeth causing pain, swelling, jaw stiffnes and general feeling of illness.
